How to Create Custom Fields

Overview on how to create and use custom fields to customize your DealRoom experience.

Custom fields allow you to capture and organize additional information specific to your deals and rooms in DealRoom. By creating custom fields, you can tailor the data collection process to meet your specific needs.

Note: Only admins can create custom fields.

Here's how you can create custom fields:

  • Go to the Settings tab from the left menu.

  • Select Custom Fields at the top.

  • Choose where you'd like to create the custom field by selecting it from the top menu. Options are: Deal, User, Data Room, Request, Synergies. You may also click the ellipsis button to navigate to Synergies (Tracking) and Findings's custom fields.

  • To add a new field, click the blue Add field + button.

  • A form will appear on the side of the screen to configure your new field.

    • Field Label: Enter a descriptive name (this will display on the deal card).

    • Group: Select the appropriate group.

    • Field Type: Choose the data type (e.g., text, number, date, select, multiselect). DealRoom offers various options.

Note: If you need to change the type of field (i.e. from text to date), you have to create a new field and delete the existing one.

  • Once you have configured the custom field settings, click the blue Create button. The custom field will now appear in the list of custom fields on the Custom Fields page.

  • You can also reorder the list of custom fields by dragging and dropping them. It's recommended to prioritize the most important fields by placing them at the top for better visibility.

  • To edit a custom field, hover over it and click on the Edit option that appears on the right.

Tip: When creating a "Select" type custom field with multiple options, you can assign a unique color to each option. This will display on the deal card or deal table, allowing you to visually organize your pipeline and quickly reference key information.

Congratulations! You have successfully created custom fields in DealRoom and added them to your deals or rooms. The custom fields will now capture and organize the additional information you need, giving you a high level view of each deal.
